FORT BRAGG, N.C. – After kicking-off All American Week 2016 with a thunderous formation run, 82nd Airborne Division Paratroopers displayed their competitive spirit by participating in sporting events across Fort Bragg, N.C., May 23.
Paratroopers from across the division came together for a chance to be called the best at soccer, football, softball, tug-of-war and even beanbag tossing.
“These games represent All American Week because we recognize that it`s more than just ourselves,” said 2nd Lt. Barry Ball, a coach for the 82nd Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Abn. Div., soccer team. “Every move we make out there on the field represents our unit and our team; it`s about camaraderie.”
Shouts of support from spectating Paratroopers and their Families cheered for the many teams competing on fields across Fort Bragg, but the loudest cheers came from last year’s All American Week 2015 reigning softball champions, 1st Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team.
Staff Sgt. Daniel McDuffy, assigned to the 1st Sqd., 73rd Cav. Rgt., said his team came out to the competition with a plan and each other.
“No team wins with just one person,” said McDuffy. “We`ve been training together for about two years now. We take our brotherhood from ‘out in the field’ to this field; that`s why we are winners.”
Tomorrow’s Force, Today!
