MANAMA, Bahrain – U.S. Naval Forces Central Command/Fifth Fleet selected its 2007 Sailors of the Year and presented them with awards during a ceremony aboard Naval Support Activity, Bahrain, Feb. 26.

Information Systems Technician 1st Class (AW) Jessica Lorenzi was selected Senior SOY, Information Systems Technician 2nd Class (AW/SW) Sequoia Stanley was selected Junior SOY and Intelligence Specialist 3rd Class Kevin E. Key was selected Bluejacket of the Year.

Vice Adm. Kevin J. Cosgriff, commander, NAVCENT, recognized those Sailors that best exemplified the high standards of the NAVCENT community throughout 2007 by presenting them their awards.

Key attributed the recognition to the quality of his leadership.

"I think everything I accomplished while I have been here has been because I've had a great chain of command behind me showing me what to do," Key said.

NAVCENT's annual ceremony honors the professional and dedicated Sailors that help mold junior Sailors through training and outstanding leadership.

Stanley encouraged other Sailors to work within their chains of command to develop future leaders.

"It makes me feel great that I'm here and that the work that is getting done is recognized. I would like to tell my peers to take care of their subordinates, really to take care of there own," Stanley said.

Each of the awardees was presented with a command coin and a plaque by Master Chief Cryptologic Technician Technical (SW/AW) Dale K. Arnold, command master chief, U.S. 5th Fleet.

NAVCENT's personnel are the nucleus of the command's mission providing security to the 5th Fleet area of responsibility, and they continue to make the difference in the implementation of regional strategy.
