NOVO SELO, Bulgaria - Serbian soldiers and Black Sea Rotational Force Marines cheer as Cpl. Melormre Drpic raced to apply a tourniquet to a casualty. Drpic worked as fast as he could, putting his newly-learned medical skills to the test to win the race for his team.
Drpic participated in a Combat Lifesaver Course during Platinum Lion 15, a multi-national training exercise with BSRF Marines and Serbian, Bulgarian and Romanian soldiers. From Jan 12-23, several different courses are held across Novo Selo Training Area, Bulgaria.
Originally from Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, Drpic joined the military in 2004 and has been with his current unit since 2008. He is an Assistant Vehicle Commander in the 17th Mechanized Battalion, Serbian Army.
When asked his reasons for joining the military, Drpic said “It is tradition in my family; my father was an officer.”
The classes and skills being taught at Platinum Lion, such as the Combat Lifesaver Course he completed, allow him to further his military training and continue his family tradition.
“This is the first time I’ve ever had this training, so everything we are doing here is new to me,” said Drpic. “It’s great because you learn things; it’s training that you never know when you might need to use it. It’s a very good exercise.”
