FORT HOOD, Texas – Students and teachers brought smiles and candy for some Fort Hood Soldiers over the holidays.

The fourth- and fifth-grade classes of Meadows Elementary School visited Soldiers with 2nd Battalion, 20th Field Artillery Regiment, 41st Field Artillery Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division and brought with them a touch of holiday cheer.

“It was really cute and adorable that someone thought about us during this season,” said Pvt. Darlis Flores, a multiple launch rocket system fire direction specialist with Battery B, 2-20th FAR. “Especially those of us who had no way to make it home.”

After student’s passed out gifts to the Soldiers, the Soldiers had a little surprise of their own – a tour of a multiple launch rocket system.

“You can tell by the looks on the students’ faces and their interaction with the Soldiers that they are having a good time,” said Sgt. Maj. Robert Russell, the senior enlisted advisor in the operations section of 2-20th FAR.

As part of the Adopt-A-School Program, Soldiers volunteer at their designated school throughout the year. The program allows Soldiers to build relationships with schools and the local community.
