ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The State of Alaska Department of Military & Veterans Affairs wants to reach out to all Alaskan veterans to inform them of their medical benefits provided under the Affordable Care Act.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has launched an awareness campaign and a website (www.va.gov/acs) to let veterans know about the Affordable Care Act and what it means for them and their families. Veterans receiving health care from the Department of Veterans Affairs will see no change in their benefits or out-of-pocket cost as the move is made into another phase of the Affordable Care Act.

All eligible veterans who are not enrolled in the VA’s health care system are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the care it provides. Veterans can apply for VA health care at any time by visiting www.va.gov/heathbenefit/enroll or calling 1-888-248-3682 and requesting Alaska service officer support. If you want to know more about eligibility for this program, please check out the VA’s benefits booklet located on the State of Alaska Office of Veterans Affairs Web page: veterans.alaska.gov. You will find the publication on the lower left corner of the Web page.

Here are some great facts about the VA’s health care system. Veterans do not have enrollment fees and no monthly premiums. Most veterans will not have out-of-pocket expenses, though some may have small co-payments for some health care or prescription drugs. It is an easy process to sign up for this benefit and we have people standing by to assist you if requested.

“I encourage all veterans to enroll now,” said Verdie Bowen Sr., director of the State of Alaska Office of Veterans Affairs. “The VA will continue to provide veterans with quality, comprehensive health care and numerous other benefits they have earned through their service.”

For more information, please contact either Bowen or Jeffery Slaikeu at (907) 334-0874 or 1-888-248-3682.
