PYEONGTAEK, South Korea - Company E from the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Aviation Regiment, 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division received the Army Award for Maintenance Excellence Dec. 5 at Kunsan Air Base in South Korea.

The motor pool personnel competed in and won the AAME competition in the small MTOE category on the Division, 8th Army and USARPAC levels which included several inspections of records, procedures, SOPs, and equipment according to checklists based on Army maintenance regulations said Lt. Col. Barton L. Johnke, the commander of the 2-2nd Aviation Regiment.

“As a result of the hard work, dedication and professionalism of the Soldiers, NCOs and officers in E Company, they outperformed all others competing for the AAME,” Johnke said.

Anytime Soldiers are recognized for their outstanding efforts and professionalism it feels good, Johnke said. He said they are especially proud of their Soldiers because they won the award last year and continued to set the bar high, work together as a team, and achieve the same high standard.

Johnke said his Soldiers are well led and highly motivated. He said that Soldiers who are highly motivated have special capabilities and they perform to a higher standard.

The Soldiers are proud of their accomplishments and to have won this award. They continued to show excellence and improvement immediately after winning the award last year, Johnke said. He said the unit plans on taking the award again next year, but they will be proud of their Soldiers no matter what because they always come back the next day ready to work hard.

Col. Hank Taylor, the commander of the 2nd CAB, said he believes that maintenance plays an important part in the mission here in South Korea.

“Maintenance is key in the success of the 2nd CAB mission here at Camp Humphreys,” Taylor said. “It allows us to be mission ready and at a moment’s notice, fight tonight.”

E Company has now been chosen by the Department of the Army as a semi-finalist for the AAME on the entire Army level. The DA will be coming to do their own inspections in the near future and E Company will be looking to impress once again with their brilliant maintenance section.
