MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO, Va. - The Ceremonial Platoon at Marine Corps Base Quantico handles base color guard duties, as well as various parades, wreath laying ceremonies and the raising and lowering of colors, but the 17 Marines in the unit consider their military funeral responsibilities among their most sacred duties.
They hail from an array of varying backgrounds, some arriving at Marine Corps Base Quantico for their first duty station, while others come more seasoned with combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan already to their credit.
Hardly any of the 17 Marines in the Ceremonial Platoon volunteered for their current assignment, but they’ve all come to share the same desire to honor their fellow Marines as they transition home by paying a final solemn tribute to them in the military funerals they conduct as part of their many daily responsibilities.
Semper Fidelis.
