YOKOSUKA, Japan – The Nimitz-Class aircraft carrier USS George Washington’s (CVN 73) First Class Petty Officers’ Association (FCPOA) and Family Readiness Group held their annual Children’s Christmas Party in the Fleet Recreation Center on board Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Dec. 13.

The event was aimed at bringing in the holiday cheer for kids and their families following the ship’s return from its 2014 patrol.

“We hold a children’s Christmas party every year to provide our Sailors and their families a safe and stress free environment to have some fun during the Christmas season,” said Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Handling) 1st Class Nicolas Cuervo, George Washington FCPOA vice president.

The event included a variety of holiday-themed activities for the families’ enjoyment, including a snowman building area, cookie decorating, an opportunity to meet Santa Claus and more.

“We had a lot of fun today,” said Darius Brown, an attendee and Navy spouse. “We had a chance to do some arts and crafts, and even had our picture taken with Santa,” exclaimed Brown’s daughters.

George Washington and its embarked air wing, Carrier Air Wing 5, provide a combat-ready force that protects and defends the collective maritime interest of the U.S. and its allies and partners in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
