TRINIDAD, Colo. — Residents of Trinidad, Colorado were surprised to see Soldiers waving from a Stryker slowly cruising down Main Street during the 16th annual Trinidad Parade of Lights, Nov. 29.
A Stryker crew of Company B, 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team and 25 Soldiers of 404th Aviation Support Battalion, 4th Combat Aviation Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, were the first Soldiers to participate in the history of the parade.
“We started this parade 16 years ago and it’s taken off like firecrackers,” said Lynn Smith, president of Hometown Holidays, Trinidad, Colorado. “It’s always been a big deal and we’re thrilled to have Soldiers from Fort Carson.”
The 25 Soldiers of 404th ASB, 4th CAB, 4th Inf. Div., marched in a tight formation wearing crisp Army Service Uniforms and sang several cadences throughout the mile long parade as the crowd clapped and cheered from the sidewalk.
“It’s an honor,” said Staff Sgt. Johnny Lunn, equal opportunity leader, 404th ASB, 4th CAB, 4th Inf. Div. “It’s an honor for us to get out and show that the U.S. Army has a presence in the community.”
First Lt. Kyle Griffin, executive officer, Company B, 2nd Bn., 23rd Inf. Reg., 1st SBCT, 4th Inf. Div., said that during the three hour drive from Fort Carson, Colorado, people waved from passing vehicles and even gave them “call me” signals.
“It’s pretty exciting to be able to bring a Stryker out for the first time on the highway,” said Griffin. “Not only do my Soldiers get a chance to support the community of Trinidad, but also be together during the holidays.”
Even though Trinidad is about 126 miles away from Fort Carson, Soldiers of the 4th Inf. Div. are scheduled to lend a hand or make another amazing appearance in future events.
