2nd Supply Battalion receives DoD award

II Marine Expeditionary Force   

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – Mr. Paul Peters, acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for Logistics and Materiel Readiness, awarded Marines from 2nd Supply Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 25, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, with the Department of Defense 2013 Packing Achievement Award during a ceremony aboard Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Dec. 3, 2014.

This presentation marks the first time that 2nd Supply Battalion has received this highly-competitive award, which has been in existence for roughly 17 years. During the ceremony, 2nd Supply Battalion was commended for their efforts in the packaging field for 2013, despite facing a change in technology and new mechanics.

“Everything that leaves the base, we touch before it leaves,” said Master Gunnery Sgt. Andrew Jiggetts III, Warehouse Staff Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge with 2nd Supply Battalion. “We send stuff to Afghanistan…everywhere in the world.”

The Preservation, Packaging, and Packing platoon provided their expertise in preparing materials and principal end items for shipment construction in support of II Marine Expeditionary Force deployments to Afghanistan, Exercise Cold Response in Norway, and Operation Rolling Thunder in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

During this time, the PP&P Marines were vital in the packaging of numerous items and encryption devices, valued at more than $272 million. They also maintained a flawless safety record, which resulted in over 8,000 hours of incident-free work while working with items such as unmanned aerial vehicles, engines, and aircraft fueling systems.

“[This award] shows the Marines that what they do on a daily basis does not go unnoticed,” said Jiggetts. “We’ve been noticed at the DoD level so it’s a pretty good feeling.”

After receiving their award, Lt. Col. Bruce Morales, the commanding officer of 2nd Supply Battalion discussed their hard work that brought them to this ceremony.

“It’s a huge accomplishment for us to receive [this award],” said Morales. “It represents not only the action of one day or one week, but the entire year.”
