HUNTER ARMY AIRFIELD, Ga. – The month of November brings with it happy thoughts of Thanksgiving Day turkey, family, and last but not least, football.

The 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade held a week-long football tournament appropriately dubbed the “Marne Air Turkey Bowl” during the week of Nov. 3-7. Ten teams from around the brigade began the tournament with hopes of bringing home the title of Marne Air Turkey Bowl champion.

After an intense week of esprit-de-corps building competition, the week culminated with the championship game between the Eagles of 2nd Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment, and the Talons of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd CAB. The game did not disappoint.

“That’s the way you finish up the Turkey Bowl tournament right there,” said Col. John Kline, 3rd CAB commander. “Awesome weather and an awesome game.”

The game was a close contest from start to finish with the two teams going into halftime tied at 12-12.

Vocal leader for the Talons, Sgt. Nathaniel Floyd, HHC, 3rd CAB, said it was his first time ever playing in a game like this with the CAB.

“It was an amazing experience. There was a lot of sportsmanship and camaraderie out there,” Floyd said.

The Talons went ahead 19-12 and held onto the lead for almost the entire second half. Down to their last minute, the Eagles rallied and scored making it 17-18. They converted a two-point conversion for the win as time ran out.

The 2nd Bn., 3rd Aviation Reg. commander, Lt. Col. Jason Roncoroni was all smiles as his team proudly represented their unit.
“I think it’s fantastic when you have the opportunity for Soldiers to come together in a friendly competition,” Roncoroni said. “I think they all enjoy it, and it makes the entire team better.”

Roncoroni gave credit to the Talon team. After a week in which no one had really challenged the Eagles, this game was a close one.
“The HHC team was awesome; they had a lot of talent. Both teams really laid it out there today,” Roncoroni said.
