LAGHMAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Matt, Nick and James Fox are three brothers from Ohio, are all currently serving the US Army in Kuwait, Afghanistan, and Egypt.

Matt and Nick are 22 year-old twins both serving in the 3d Cavalry Regiment. Matt is an infantry sergeant assigned to 1st Squadron, 3d Cavalry Regiment “Tiger.” Matt has been deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom for the past four months and served in the 3d Cav his entire career. He enlisted at the same time as his twin brother in Sep. 2010. Matt said, “It was completely buy accident that Nick ended up in Texas with me.” Matt also said, “I think I’m busier in Afghanistan than my brothers in Kuwait and Egypt.”

Nick Fox’s first duty station was in Korea. Nick is a specialist and a cavalry scout currently serving in Egypt. He is assigned to 4th Squadron, 3d Cavalry Regiment “LongKnife” and is operating with the Multinational Forces-Observers mission in the Sinai Peninsula. Nick said, “I get to talk to Matt a lot. Our brother James’s schedule is always changing so it’s been about a month since I have got to talk to him on Skype.”

James is the older brother. He is a truck driver and works in the 3/159th Attack Reconnaissance Battalion home stationed in Germany. James has been in Kuwait for about seven months and recently deployed to Baghdad, Iraq less than a month ago to assist Apache helicopters conduct missions in northern Iraq. James said, “I have played phone tag a lot with my brothers.”

The Fox family is truly an American anomaly. A recent article published stated that only about 30 percent of military-aged Americans are qualified to serve. Thousands of men and women are disqualified to serve because of medical or moral issues. The average American is overweight or has done something in their past that will not allow them to serve in today’s Army.

The Fox family proudly support their sons and truly understands the hardships that American veterans have endured for our country.
