MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. – The Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Falcons’ football team lost against the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton Headquarters Support Battalion Spartans, 7-0 in the playoffs for the title of “Best in the West” aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., Nov. 4.

The Falcons ended the regular season with a record of 6-1 and advanced past the first round of playoffs into the semifinals.

The Falcons’ defense showed up to the game stopping the Spartans’ offense numerous times. Both teams battled back and forth making outstanding plays on both sides of the ball.

Neither team would score in regulation time sending the game into overtime.

“I was very pleased with the team’s performance,” said Master Gunnery Sgt. Carlice Moffett, Falcons head coach. “The players were pumped up and they came out and took it to them.”

Overtime rules were that each team would start on the 25-yard line allowing for a fair opportunity for both teams to score. The Falcons won the overtime coin toss and chose to defer and give the football to the Spartans.

The Falcons defense gave it their all, but the Spartans punched it in from four yards, scoring for the first time, making the score 7-0.

The Falcons offense took the field and started working their way down to the end zone. The Falcons would come up short on the 20-yard line when a botched handoff would cause a fumble. The Spartans recovered the football and sealed their second playoff win.

“I’m looking forward to next season, we still have unfinished business,” said Patrick Williams, Falcons’ fullback. “We have to come back and take what belongs to us.”

The Falcons finish the season with a final record of 7-2.
