PORT HUENEME, Calif. - Seabees from Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NCMB) 3 teamed up with the battalion’s Family Readiness Group (FRG) to help families celebrate a safe Halloween at Naval Base Ventura County, Port Hueneme, Oct. 28.
The annual “Trunk or Treat” event invited families to dress up and decorate their vehicles while children received goodies, prizes and toured decorated spaces around NMCB 3’s command building.
The battalion’s FRG team also awarded $25 Navy Exchange (NEX) gift cards for the “Most Spooktacular” and the “Most Creative” trunk decorations.
According to Chief Steelworker Joe Worrell, the event helped strengthen friendships and boost morale.
“Seabees and their families were able to really get to know each other and build trust, which overall helps with the battalion’s cohesion when we deploy and increases mission readiness,” said Worrell.
As children romped through the command building, pillaging trunks for treats, NMCB 3 friends and families enjoyed seeing their children growing and enjoy a safe holiday.
“It was a big eye-opener knowing my son is growing up,” said Chief Logistics Specialist Benny Salazar from NMCB 3. “I love these events on base. They are safe, fun and I get to meet the other families from the command.”
The Naval Construction Force is a vital component of the U.S. Maritime Strategy. The force provides deployable battalions capable of providing disaster preparation and recovery support, humanitarian assistance and combat operations support.
