TRIPLER ARMY MEDICAL CENTER, Hawaii -- Medical staff of Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) and military families attended the 6th Annual Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Graduate Reunion and Holiday party Oct. 25.

The NICU at Tripler Army Medical Center supports the entire Pacific region and all branches of service providing the high quality neonatal intensive care to premature and term neonates who require additional medical and nursing support after birth.

The families were able to see the nurses and doctors who dedicated their time to ensure their child or children received quality care after their delivery.

"It's a time where the parents and the patients can come back and show us their baby," said Cassie Corbett, TAMC NICU registered nurse. "They’re all grown up, bigger, doing well and thriving. It's a happy time."

Courtney Brown, wife of U.S. Navy Electrician's Mate 1st Class Justin Brown, was in attendance with her husband and three daughters. Their twin daughters were treated by the NICU staff and Courtney now considers the nurses and doctors extended family.

"We really love them," Courtney said. "Our little ones were in the NICU for a month and they really became their moms and their dads and it was great whenever we left to know that they were there for us."

Katie Carter, TAMC NICU registered nurse and the Brown family's primary provider, was also happy to be able to see the Brown family and their children.

"I've been a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit nurse for 10 years," Carter said. "You bond with the parents, you bond with the babies and it really works. This family, the Browns and I, are so tight. I was primary for their twin girls and afterwards we've kept in touch. Seeing them get older really makes it worth it."

The NICU residents, nurses and doctors extended their appreciation to past NICU families for the honor and privilege of having journeyed together through the NICU experience at TAMC. More than 100 families attended the reunion and holiday event.
