FORT HOOD, Texas - The U.S. Army, General Motors (NYSE: GM) and Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) will host a graduation ceremony for the first Shifting Gears: Automotive Technician Training Program class at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 28 here. Created from a multi-year partnership between the two companies and the Army, the program empowers transitioning soldiers with the skills required to secure careers as GM service technicians.
Twenty-three soldiers will receive their certification as GM technicians during the ceremony, opening various service opportunities at GM dealerships across the country. Shifting Gears equips soldiers with technical expertise and experiential training during a 12-week, on-base program that also builds on Army core disciplines to provide students with self-management and problem-solving skills that will be invaluable throughout their civilian careers.
Media who wish to cover the ceremony must register HERE. On the day of the event, media should meet in the southside parking lot of the Marvin Leath Visitor's Center at Fort Hood's main gate entrance. For more information, on the program and availability for soldier interviews, call Fort Hood Public Affairs at (254) 287-9993 or (254) 287-0106.
