FORT HOOD, Texas – The 1st Cavalry Division will honor Elizabeth Laird, the "Hug Lady," Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, at 10 a.m. on Cooper Field here, just following the division color uncasing ceremony.
The First Team will honor Laird with a presentation for her unwavering commitment and love for the Fort Hood community. She made it her mission in 2003 to hug every deploying and returning Fort Hood Soldier.
"I hug the Soldiers, because it's my way of saying thank you for what you do and the sacrifices you make, also it lets the Soldiers know they are cared for," said the 82-year-old Air Force veteran.
