FARGO, N.D. - The North Dakota National Guard is pleased to announce a new anti-bullying presentation for high school students and available at no cost to schools.
Course facilitators and presenters will be oriented and trained on the presentation during a preparation event 2 p.m., tomorrow, Oct. 16, at the National Guard's Industrial Park Facility in Fargo. Media are invited to attend the training event.
"We recognize that the need to reduce and/or eliminate bullying and cruel behaviors is a critical challenge for schools across the country," said Master Sgt. Jerry Dodds, National Guard recruiting team leader. "We hope North Dakota schools take advantage of this respect-based program."
The 50-minute classroom presentation is called H.E.A.R. (which stands for Helping Everyone Achieve Respect) and was developed in collaboration with nationally renowned subject matter experts at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and the University of Nebraska - Lincoln.
The presentation includes detailed case studies that allow students to explore inappropriate behavior and its consequences. Students will be introduced to the National Guard's core values, including loyalty, respect, integrity and honor, and they'll be asked to consider what can be done differently to minimize bullying and enhance respectful behavior.
