    SAN FRANCISCO - Media who wish to have Marine Corps K-9’s on camera during early morning shows/ standups should contact 2ndLt Francheska Soto at 210-386-8980.

    What: Dogs trained in urban search and rescue, bomb and drug detection, as well as emotional support dogs that work diligently to enhance the lives of people with disabilities.

    When: 3:00 PM-6:00 PM Tuesday October 7, 2014

    Visuals: Dogs trained in detection and bite will bound towards a target 10-15 yards away and demonstrate accuracy and aim. A specialized search dog will showcase its ability to work off-leash at an extended distance from the handler as it searched for explosives. A combat tracker dog will demonstrate its ability to track for people, also for extended distances. Search and rescue dogs will simulate searching for survivors in earthquake debris. Dogs that serve as emotional support, such as for veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder, will mingle with the public as their role as supporters is discussed.

    Background:

    Since 2010, Fleet Week has helped local authorities and service members prepare for and respond to emergencies which may take place in the Bay Area and around the world. Joint exercises and seminars include urban search and rescue training, medical trauma training, and a senior leader seminar.

    San Francisco Fleet Week 2014 is October 6th thru 13th. This year’s public events will feature the return of the Blue Angels airshow, a performance by the Marine Corps Band, the commissioning of the Navy’s newest ship- the U.S.S. America.
