ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. – The Altus AFB Youth Center is scheduled to host a home alone safety class at 4:30 p.m. in the base youth center, Oct. 9, 2014.

The class is recommended for Department of Defense card holders who are planning to leave their children at home by themselves. Both parents and children should be in attendance for the class.

The class will cover the supervision policy guidelines for parents and their children living on- and off-base.

The policy letter on youth supervision for Altus AFB includes a table to guide parents and caretakers on whether or not a child could be left unattended in certain situations.

“Home Alone is a great class for all youth but primarily for ages 10 and up. I urge all parents to sign up for this class and make sure their child is ready to be home alone,” said Anthony Coward, 97th Force Support Squadron youth programs director.

The policy letter for parents and children on base recommends parents to bring their children to a home alone class before allowing them to be home without parental supervision.

“The purpose of the class is to keep children safe, prevent tragedy, ensure your child is able to be left alone and distribute and review Altus Air Force Base youth supervision policy letter. It has tons of great information that will prepare children to be left home alone, so the parents can have that much needed date night,” said Coward.

For more information, call the youth center at 580-481-7903.
