SAVANNAH, Ga. – Deepening the Savannah harbor takes a giant leap forward when officials from the Corps of Engineers and the State of Georgia sign a Project Partnership Agreement Oct. 8. The signing of the PPA allows the Corps of Engineers to accept bids for the first contracts to be awarded under the $706 million Savannah Harbor Expansion Project (SHEP).
The Corps of Engineers Savannah District announced two contracts this week. One covers dredging the outer harbor and creating a channel extension. The other, being announced Oct. 1, will construct a dissolved oxygen injection system for the inner harbor. The PPA must be signed before bids can be accepted for these contracts.
Details on time and place of the PPA signing will be released later by Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal’s media office.
