SAIPAN - The Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Shiloh (CG 67) arrived in Saipan, Sept. 23 for a scheduled port visit.

The visit will give the crew with an operational break after participating in Valiant Shield, a U.S.-only exercise integrating 18,000 U.S. Navy, Air Force, Army, and Marine Corps personnel.

This port call also provides an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between Saipan and the U.S. to help maintain a safe maritime environment.

“I’m always happy to experience new ports,” said Fire Controlman 2nd Class Abraham O. Nwamkpa, from Corpus Christi, Texas. “Saipan has a powerful place in our history. As a United States’ Sailor I’m honored to share in it as well as enjoy the beautiful island”

“There’s so much to look forward to,” said Lt. j.g. Julia Kranz, Shiloh’s force protection officer. “Not only is there a lot of history, but great opportunities to scuba-dive at a world-renowned dive-site.”

In addition to sight-seeing, the ship plans on participating in community relations events at a local school.

Shiloh is on patrol with the George Washington Strike Group in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
