BALTIMORE, Md. - Regional Navy commands hosted a Navy Day event for students at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) Sept. 17.
The event was designed to promote a variety of Navy career opportunities that are available and to introduce a new Navy summer internship program.
"The main goal of the event is to highlight the Navy career fields in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) disciplines," said Capt. Kate Janac, U.S. Fleet Cyber Command's assistant chief-of-staff for Manpower and Personnel (N1). "We also wanted to promote our new cyber internship program."
Fleet Cyber Command (FCC), Navy Information Operations Command Maryland, and Navy Cyber Warfare Development Group will each offer 2 paid internships to UMBC students next summer.
"The Navy needs talented individuals in the STEM disciplines," said Kevin Cooley, FCC's executive director and CIO, who addressed a large group of students at the event. "We are looking for folks who understand how to make cyber work."
FCC's internship, for example, will focus on reviewing and developing plans and policy to support Joint and Navy operations.
"I wanted to explore my options with the Navy," said Michael Raup, UMBC student. "I am interested in gaining experience and I feel the internship is a great way to broaden my horizon."
Interested UMBC students must be pursuing a baccalaureate degree in any STEM program with a 3.0 or better GPA in all technical, math and science courses. More information is available here: https://www.facebook.com/USFLTCYBERCOM/posts/573721279422692.
