    3rd Combat Aviation Brigade

FORT STEWART, Ga. – Two teams of food service specialists from the 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade brought their culinary A-game to the field behind the 3rd Infantry Division Headquarters building to compete in the Marne Air Iron Chef Championship on Fort Stewart Sept. 10.

The competition was the culmination of two previous competitions held in March and May. The two winning teams from each previous challenge met to determine who would be the first team ever to be named 3rd CAB Marne Air Iron Chef champion.

The 3rd CAB Commander, Col. John D. Kline, said that because this was the championship, he dialed it up just a notch.
“I’ve got two secret ingredients instead of one, and I’ll tell you right now they are sweet,” Kline said as he unveiled baskets containing root beer and peaches. “The peaches are because we are in Georgia, and the root beer was my wife’s suggestion.”

The winning team from the first Marne Air Iron Chef competition, Pfc. Camilo Cordoba and Spc. Shanequa Cooper, both Soldiers with Troop E, 3rd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, began preparing their dishes immediately after receiving the secret ingredients. The victors of the second competition, Sgt. Paul Mascardo, and Pfc. Cieddah Ewing, food service specialists with 2nd Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment, followed suit.

Each team had to prepare an appetizer, four-course meal, and dessert to be judged. All the dishes had to contain the secret ingredients. A panel of five judges, including Brig. Gen. James R. Blackburn Jr., Deputy Commanding General-Maneuver, 3rd ID, ensured there would be no tie.

“Our cooks are some of the hardest working and least recognized Soldiers we have, so this time we wanted to share the story of what they do with folks outside the brigade,” said Kline. “We decided to sling load the containerized kitchens to division headquarters and allow some of the leadership here a chance to enjoy what these amazing Soldiers do every day.”
With a unanimous decision, the team of Pfc. Camilo Cordoba and Spc. Shanequa Cooper were crowned the first ever Marne Air Iron Chef champions.

“It feels really good because I was so nervous at first,” said Cooper. “I have a really great partner in Cordoba.”

Cordoba wasn’t sure his team would win after hearing all the great reviews for the team of Mascardo and Ewing. When he found out that his team had won, he echoed the sentiments shared by his partner.

“Working with my partner [Cooper] was great,” said Cordoba. “I never lost confidence that we were going to win.”
