    Defense Logistics Agency

HONOLULU, Hawaii - Ulchi Freedom Guardian 2014 is a routine, defense-oriented exercise based on realistic scenarios to prepare U.S. and South Korean forces to defend South Korea. About 50,000 South Korean troops and more than 30,000 U.S. troops – 3,000 from outside the Korean Peninsula – took part in this year’s exercise.

DLA Pacific Korea supported the exercise with a 44-person DLA support team drawn from DLA Pacific, DLA Aviation, DLA Disposition Services, DLA Distribution, DLA Energy, DLA Land and Maritime, DLA Troop Support, DLA Information Operations, the Joint Contingency Acquisition Support Office and the DLA Joint Logistics Operations Center. The DST provided two liaison officers to USFK’s Joint Logistics Operations Center and one each to 8th Army and Marine Corps Forces Korea. Warfighter support representatives joined the teams at the 2nd Infantry Division, the 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, and the 7th Air Force Combined Air Logistics Center.

At the start of UFG 14, the operations team started UFG 14 by putting together DLA’s common operating picture and establishing systems for information sharing.

The DST was able to train a cohesive team while providing logistical support during 24-hour operations. Once the team was assembled, DLA Support Team-Korea answered requests for information on critical classes of supply like subsistence, personal protective equipment, repair parts and barrier materials. In addition to answering RFIs, the personnel supporting USFK, 7th Air Force and MARFOR-K integrated with their teams to ensure their needs were met efficiently. They educated their customers with DLA Pacific Korea’s overview briefing.

The DST also tracked and reported on all of DLA Pacific Korea’s family members during simula6ted noncombatant evacuation operations, ensuring accountability of all family members for possible evacuation. The knowledge gained throughout the exercise helped prepare DLA team members for their duties during contingency operations
