FORT HOOD, Texas – Defense Finance and Accounting Service employees celebrated success when the sixth annual Feds Feed Families Food Drive campaign came to an end Aug. 28, at all three financial service locations here.

Leslie Ingram, a military pay technician at DMPO, who took on the task of collecting and recording all the donations made, attributed their success to friendly competition, a strong desire to give back, and an exploitation of strengths.

Internal challenges poise teams against one another to see who could donate the most. The team with the highest combined weight was announced victor. This friendly competition was held weekly and focused on a specific category of donation.

“Giving became contagious,” said Ingram as she described how the employees at all levels motivated each other to donate.

Ingram said they played on strengths of those employees who were more shopping savvy than others. Employees donated money, which the savvy shoppers used in combination with coupons to maximize the amount of donation.

DFAS employees at each location celebrated to a job well done, donating more than 3,100 pounds of nonperishable goods in support of the Feds Feed Families Food Drive.

Keeping with the spirit of giving back, the employees also took the celebration as an opportunity to discuss their next project, Hunger Action Awareness month, scheduled to begin in September.
