ALTUS AIR FORCE BASE, Okla. – The 97th Air Mobility Wing is scheduled to host the 2014 Wings of Freedom Open House Sept. 13, 2014, and will consist of various static displays and aerial demonstrations.
The open house is open to the public and admission is free. Visitors without a Department of Defense-issued identification card are directed to enter the base from the South Gate on U.S. 62.
The schedule is as follows:
• 9 a.m. – gates open, static aircraft viewable, vendors open
• 11:30 a.m. – aerial demonstrations begin
• 4 p.m. – aerial demonstrations end
• 5 p.m. – gates close
The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and the U.S. Air Force Academy Wings of Blue Parachute Team will be headlining acts.
“It’s going to be a great show; we have the Thunderbirds coming, the USAFA Wings of Blue Parachute Team who are going to be jumping, we also have a KC-135 Stratotanker and C-17 Globemaster III flyover, and a number of civilian,” said U.S. Air Force Maj. Drew Kanikeberg, Wings of Freedom Open House director.
Kanikeberg also added that there will be a couple of static displays to include a CV-22 Osprey, a Lockheed AC-130 gunship and a E-3 Sentry AWACS.
Visitors are limited to the following items, which will be subject to search by security forces at the gate: wheelchairs, folding chairs, purses, diaper bags, camera bags and strollers.
The following items are prohibited: weapons (including concealed weapons), knives, drugs and drug paraphernalia, alcohol, flammable liquids, scanners, coolers, backpacks, large umbrellas, large bags (must not exceed dimensions of 25” x 15” x 10”).
Sunscreen and hearing protection are recommended due to high sun exposure and noise.
