    3rd Combat Aviation Brigade

EVANS ARMY AIRFIELD, Ga. – Senior noncommissioned officers from 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade were introduced to virtual training aids during familiarization on Virtual Battle Space 3, Reconfigurable Vehicle Simulator, and Dismounted Soldier Training System for future opportunities available to their Soldiers Aug. 22 on Evans Army Airfield.

Maj. John Culpepper, simulations operations officer for 3rd CAB, displayed the virtual training to senior noncommissioned officers to further enhance training for team and squad level events, and to benefit junior NCOs who would be empowered to conduct the simulations prior to live training events. The simulators allowed for Soldiers to train fully immersed — meaning all appropriate gear and equipment needed for the event.

Command Sgt. Maj. James Snyder, 3rd CAB’s senior noncommissioned officer, observed the training and said that the broad spectrum of virtual training available at Fort Stewart was impressive. Snyder adds this training will be added to future training plans for his NCOs.

“What I noticed was a great opportunity through the simulations process to build a foundation of Soldiers’ skills and leader attributes,” said Snyder. “We will build a training plan which will allow noncommissioned officers to grab that training plan and go from ground zero to a full immersion process.”

Snyder said you could successfully accomplish that in one quarter of annual training cycle.

Culpepper said 3rd CAB is very familiar with the flight simulators used for pilots conducting aviation operations and what can be neglected are the simulators used for Soldiers to conduct basic tasks such as convoy operations, guard duty at entry control points, and security.

“The devices that are available today allow Soldiers to be immersed in the environment so they can practice skills that are common on the battlefield and become highly proficient prior to live training events,” said Culpepper.
