    Joint Enabling Capabilities Command

NAVAL STATION NORFOLK, Va. – On Aug. 8, U.S. Army Reserve Col. Tom Niles relinquished command of the Joint Enabling Capabilities Command’s (JECC) Army Reserve Element (ARE) to U.S. Army Reserve Col. Guy M. Hollingsworth in a ceremony at the Pennsylvania House onboard Naval Station Norfolk, Va. Niles has served as the acting ARE Commander since Feb. 1, when the U.S. Army Reserve Command reorganized the JECC’s Army Reserve structure and redesignated it as the JECC ARE, a subordinate unit of the 335th Signal Command (Theater).

The JECC employs a “total force” concept in which Reserve members train to the same readiness standards as active duty members and are regular participants in JECC deployments for combatant command exercises and real-world missions. This total force concept creates a strong, cohesive unit that builds upon each other’s areas of expertise to bring even greater value to the joint force commander.

“I can’t thank Col. Niles enough for what he’s done for the JECC ARE,” said U.S. Navy Rear Adm. Bret C. Batchelder, the Commander of the JECC and the presiding officer during the ARE change of command ceremony. “He worked tirelessly to align the JECC ARE and the 335th Signal Command to ensure we are providing the necessary support to our soldiers and their families.”

Niles’ leadership and guidance ensured the smooth transition of the JECC ARE to the 335th Signal Command (Theater) with all coordinating tasks accomplished efficiently and effectively. Additionally, in the few months that Niles served as the acting JECC ARE Commander, he oversaw the deployment of more than 30 Army Reserve personnel for five geographic combatant command exercises and four real-world missions.

“It’s been a great time here at the JECC and I appreciate having the opportunity to command,” said Niles. “Thank you for the support over these past few months and I know you will do the same for Col. Hollingsworth as he takes the JECC ARE to the next level.”

Hollingsworth assumes command of the JECC ARE following a year-long deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, where he served as the Department of Defense Lead and Deputy Director of Operations for the Afghanistan Threat Finance Cell.

“The JECC is made up of dedicated, professional and committed personnel and I hope that we continue to support where we are needed around the world,” Hollingsworth said upon assuming command. “I am looking forward to being part of this team and I hope that as I take command, we continue to uphold our excellent reputation.”

After spending 11 years as an enlisted soldier, Hollingsworth attended the U.S. Army Officer Candidate School where he graduated as a Distinguished Military Graduate. Following completion of the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, Hollingsworth served as a Forward Observer, Fire Direction Officer, Executive Officer, Battery Commander and as the Operations and Training Officer within the 148th Field Artillery Battalion, 116th Armored Cavalry Brigade. He served as the Senior Training Officer for the Idaho Military Academy and later as the Special Projects Officer for the Idaho National Guard, reestablishing ROTC programs at Brigham Young University-Idaho and Idaho State University.

Hollingsworth joined the U.S. Army Reserve in 2000 where he has commanded the 11th Combined Arms Services Staff School Battalion, 6th Brigade (Professional Development), 104th Division (Institutional Training) and served as the Deputy Chief of Staff of Operations for the Joint and Special Troops Support Command, and later as the Chief of Staff for the reorganized 76th Operational Response Command. He has deployed in support of Operational Iraqi Freedom and served as the Senior Adviser to the Iraqi Chief of Staff-Training under U.S. Forces – Iraq.

Hollingsworth holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brigham Young University, a Master of Education degree from Idaho State University, a Master of Strategic Studies degree from the U.S. Army War College and a Doctorate of Philosophy degree in Education from the University of Idaho. His personal awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters and the Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, among others.
