    20th CBRNE Command

    ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. - The 20th Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosives Command (CBRNE) demonstrated some of its unique and critical mission capabilities here Aug. 5-6.

    The 20th CBRNE Command joined other CBRNE-related organizations based on Aberdeen Proving Ground's Edgewood Area for a capabilities demonstration.

    Soldiers from the 20th CBRNE Command displayed some of their detection, protection, decontamination and elimination capabilities.

    Hosted by the Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical and Biological Defense, the event showcased U.S. Army, joint and interagency CBRNE capabilities.

    In addition to 20th CBRNE, the U.S. Army Edgewood Chemical Biological Center, U.S. Army Chemical Materials Activity, Program Executive Office Assembled Chemical Weapons Alternatives, U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense, U.S. Army Public Health Command, Defense Threat Reduction Agency and Department of Homeland Security Chemical Security Analysis Center participated in the event.

    Among the many items on display was the Field Deployable Hydrolysis System, the same type of system being used to neutralize Syria's chemical weapons stockpiles on board the container ship M/V Cape Ray. The Joint U.S. Forces Korea Portal and Integrated Threat Recognition, a system designed to detect biological threats, was also set up at the event. An Explosive Destruction System that can safely destroy up to six explosive items at once was on display as well.

    The 20th CBRNE Command, the only CBRNE formation of its kind in the U.S. Department of Defense, trains and operates with allied, interagency and joint partners around the world.

    Dispersed on 19 military installations in 16 states, 20th CBRNE Command Soldiers and civilians hunt down and eliminate the world's most dangerous weapons.
