CAMP ATTERBURY, Ind. - Are you motivated? Generator mechanic Pfc. Zachary Michaud, a Bowling Green, Kentucky, native, 11th Theater Aviation Command, Army Reserves, TF-76 is motivated. Michaud said he has always been a positive person, both inside and outside the military.

“I just wake up pumped every morning,” said Michaud.
His positive attitude is a quality proven beneficial during the unit’s participation in Vibrant Response 14, Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center, Indiana.

Vibrant Response is a U.S. Northern Command-sponsored, U.S. Army North led, field training exercise for chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and high-yield explosive consequence management forces. It is designed to improve their ability to respond to catastrophic incidents.

Their mission at Vibrant Response requires extended hours and an increased workload for mechanics to keep ground vehicles, generators and convoy operations sustained. The mechanic’s optimistic outlook lightens the heavy workload.

Spc. Jacob Jenkins, Army Reserves, 11th Theater Aviation Command, TF 76 said Michaud’s attitude motivates Soldiers, which improves their productivity and efficiency.

“Positive vibes are what the motor pool is all about,” said Jenkins, “If there are negative vibes, no one is motivated to do anything.”

According to Jenkins, Michaud’s motivation also inspires teamwork.

Whether it is fueling trucks, filling up a tire or checking fluid in vehicles, Michaud is there to lend a hand and offer encouragement.

“His attitude keeps everyone working together and helping each other out,” said Jenkins.

Michaud often works night shifts to keep his unit mission capable through Vibrant Response, and the encouraging atmosphere comes with him.

“I probably say Hooah [a motivational word used in the military] every two to three minutes between the hours of twenty-hundred [8p.m] and zero-eight-hundred [8 a.m],” said Michaud, “Since I am a night person, I keep them active,” said Michaud.
It is not just Michaud’s personality that motivates other Soldiers, performing his duties as a generator mechanic can also improve moral.

A generator provides a power source for Soldiers while participating in Vibrant Response, and keeping that source running, keeps Soldiers running.

Without generators, Soldiers would have no electrical source. This means no air conditioning or way to power cell phones and other electronics. According to Michaud, moral can suffer if these assets are not available.

It is important for Michaud to stay positive, and facilitate teamwork because his motivation comes from those around him. He said when moral of the unit is high his motivation is too.

“A smile on everybody’s face brings me more motivation,” said Michaud.
