Army Field Support Battalion-Germany holds change of command ceremony

VILSECK, Germany -- Lt. Col. Steven P. Schultz was handed the Army Field Support Battalion–Germany reigns from Lt. Col. William J. Shinn, Jr., during a change of command ceremony held in Vilseck, Germany, July 18.

Col. Christopher J. Roscoe, the commander of the 405th Army Field Support Brigade, officiated the ceremony.

“Today, Lt. Col. Schultz becomes the fifth Army officer to accept the unit guidon and take on the mantle and responsibility of Army Field Support Battalion-Germany’s commander. Today is also an occasion to mark the breadth and scope of the battalion’s accomplishments over the past two years under the leadership of Lt. Col. Bill Shinn,” said Roscoe.

“Lt. Col. Steven Schultz comes to us from Fort Lee, Virginia, where he served in the command planning group for the commanding general, but he is no stranger to the logistics world, having commanded one of the Army’s three rapid port opening elements. Commanding the AFSB-Germany will definitely be a different perspective for him and one Steve is extremely qualified for,” said Roscoe.

The outgoing commander, Lt. Col. William Shinn, attributed the success of the AFSBn-Germany to the people who worked under his leadership. He reflected on the partnership that helped shape the European Activity Set, but also the strategic security environment. Shinn thanked his wife, Ann Marie, and their daughter, Katie. He also thanked the civilian workforce, Department of the Army civilians, Soldiers and their families for their support over the last two years. Shinn will head to the Pentagon to serve in the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics.

“To the officers and civilians of the AFSBn-Germany, I only hope to live up to the high bar you have already set. You have a fantastic reputation, and I look forward to working with each of you over the next two years,” said Schultz.

“Command Sgt. Maj. Bryan Kroontje [405th AFSB command sergeant major] and I know that you are the absolute right Solider to take this command to the future, to build on its past successes and take it to new heights,” said Roscoe.
