OSAN AIR BASE, South Korea - Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Korea’s Theater Consolidation and Shipping Point has been awarded the Global Distribution Excellence: Henry T. Flint Shipping Point of the Year award for its focus on ensuring U.S. forces are “Ready to Fight Tonight.”

During 2013, Korea’s TCSP shipped more than 12.2 million pounds of container cargo destined for customers throughout Korea, in addition to more than 3.6 million pounds of export mission stock and cross-dock containerized cargo destined for customers around the world.

“We may have a small TCSP, but we have the hands-on skillsets for quality workmanship and we personify distribution center excellence,” said Army Lt. Col Ronald Eggelston, the distribution center’s commander. “We pride ourselves on fulfilling the diverse transportation needs of all DOD units and agencies assigned to the Republic of Korea.”

The TCSP also processes inbound Air Lines of Communication shipments and in 2013, received more than 3.9 million pounds of critical cargo from Osan Air Base alone. The TCSP re-distributed the cargo directly to the warfighter, DOD units and agencies.

“We sent more than 6.6 million pounds of cross-docked critical mission DLA and DOD cargo in 2013,” Eggelston said.

When mission-critical material does not meet customer, weight or cube standards to be shipped via military avenues, the distribution center processes material via World Wide Express carriers.

“Our TCSP processed more than 66,000 pounds of material in 2013, saving DLA more than $1.2 million in costs,” said Eggelston.

In addition to warfighter support, the Korea’s TCSP employees have a volunteer rate over 75 percent. Volunteering their own time, efforts and energy, the team of U.S. and Korean employees teaches English to underprivileged children and adults at country government buildings.

“These selfless service acts have provided not only a better future for the underprivileged youth of Korea, but improves our relationship with our host country,” Eggelston said. “With two cultures and one team, our TCSP continues to seek ways to improve and strives to give back to the warfighter, while maintaining a backbone that is pure of heart for our neighboring community.”
