MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. -- Lt. Col. Carlos A. Vallejo relinquished his duties as commanding officer of Weapons Training Battalion during a change of command ceremony at Stone Bay aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, July 2.

He presented the colors to Lt. Col. Mark R. Reid, who previously served as the operations officer for Marine Corps Special Operations Command.

“Vallejo set a very high example,” said Reid. “But I’m going to do my best to command this battalion and keep improving it.”

The change of command ceremony serves as a time for Marines of the unit to formally transfer the authority of the command from one officer to another.

“I’m going to miss these Marines,” said Vallejo. “Everything I was awarded for while being here was because of them. All I did was give them the resources to complete the task, and they went above and beyond. This battalion has become an extended family for the past two years.”

While serving as the commanding officer of Weapons Training Battalion, Vallejo successfully improved the environment and training schedule of the battalion.

“I’ve served with Vallejo before,” said Col. James W. Clark, deputy commander of Marine Corps Installations East, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune. “There was never a doubt in my mind that he was giving his all to these Marines and making sure they were in the best hands possible, and you can see from his accomplishments while serving here he has been successful.”

“These have been some of the best Marines I have served with,” said Vallejo. “I wouldn’t have traded this for the world. I’m proud to say I was the commanding officer of Weapons Training Battalion.”

During the ceremony, Vallejo was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for his outstanding service as the commanding officer of Weapons Training Battalion from June 2012 to July 2014.
