FORT BLISS, Texas – The Directorate of Mobilization and Deployment recognized the efforts of Sgt. Edward C. McCoy, Headquarters Headquarters Company, DoMaD, and Spec. Andru B. Martin, HHC, DoMaD, in an awards ceremony at the directorate, here, May 23.
Col. John Dorney, director, DoMaD, hosted the ceremony. Dorney pinned an Army Commendation Medal on McCoy.
Maj. Daniel S. Gray, commander, Headquarters Headquarters Company, DoMaD, detailed McCoy’s accomplishments.
“For more than three years, McCoy served as the sole HHC, DoMaD, property book officer, supply sergeant and armorer,” said Gray. “He was the primary property book holder for over 1,000 weapons, valued at over $1.4 million. He was also the principal hand-receipt holder for 19 barracks and furniture with a combined value of over $2.19 million.”
“McCoy planned and executed a complex reposition of three separate arms rooms from two separate buildings into one centralized location. This migration provided a central point for the issue and storage of weapons and sensitive items. His insight on building code requirements and civilian skill as a general contractor guaranteed the successful arms room renovation and relocation.”
“The true assessment of Sgt. McCoy’s efforts was made apparent last week during a Garrison inventory. The HHC had no property loss and no accounting errors of assigned equipment.”
Dorney also expressed his appreciation for McCoy’s exceptional service to DoMaD and to the community as a whole.
“I’ve tapped into this man for boy scout projects including the Lee More orphanage improvement project,” said Dorney.
McCoy modestly accepted the accolades.
“Never did I realize how much work is dedicated in this footprint and you gave me the opportunity to stay here and work with you,” said McCoy. “I have so much feeling of honor of helping the units. You are the ones that gave me the willpower to stay with DoMaD and it’s been an honor to work with you.”
Next, Dorney awarded Martin an Army Achievement Medal.
“The young man you see in front of you is going to do great things,” said Dorney.
“Spec. Martin was assigned to the Fort Bliss Warrior Transition Battalion after demobilizing in January, 2013,” said Gray. “As a Warrior in Transition, he was required to work during periods of non-activity. As a medic, Martin was a perfect fit for HHC. His work ethic was such that he required no supervision or guidance, thus allowing the throughput to continue and increase during peak periods.”
Martin graciously remarked on his accomplishment.
“I want to thank everyone I worked with this last year and four months, while I was at WTU,” said Martin. “It’s been a pleasure and an honor to work with you guys and help Soldiers out. That is what I love to do. Also I would like to thank my family for raising me and teaching me how to be a hard, dedicated worker. I hope to do great things for the army and I’m going to keep pushing forward.”
