HAWR RAJAB, Iraq – Coalition forces netted weapons caches with enough estimated material to make 200 complete improvised explosive devices in Hawr Rajab, Oct. 26.

Soldiers of Troop C, 1st Squadron, 40th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division, currently attached to 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, discovered the caches of IEDs and rocket-propelled grenades.

The caches were in an area near a canal crossing east of Forward Operating Base Falcon. The area has been a point of origin for indirect fires toward FOB Falcon.

Finding the caches should also help to combat the IED threat in the area. "The IEDs and parts that we found could have easily been placed to attack our convoys. Hopefully this can help to stop those attacks," said 1st Lt. Eric Rudberg, Troop C, platoon leader.

Troop C took some of the electronic devices for further investigation. An explosive ordnance team conducted a controlled detonation to destroy the caches.

In the same area of operations, Oct. 26, concerned citizens found and brought two separate ordnance caches to 1-40th Cav. Regt. troops at Entry Control Point 20, a patrol base in Hawr Rajab. The caches included two fire extinguisher IEDs filled with unknown bulk explosives, two RPGs, two 57 mm rockets filled with UBE, one 60 mm mortar round and nine two-liter bottles of UBE.

EOD conducted a controlled detonation of the ordnance.
