    20th CBRNE Command

ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. (June 20, 2014) - The U.S. Army's sole formation dedicated to combating the full range of Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive threats facing our nation is honing its mission command capabilities during a nation-wide training exercise here this week.

During Exercise Atropian Phoenix, the 20th CBRNE Command (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosives) is training at the National Training Center on Fort Irwin, California; at the 48th Chemical Brigade Headquarters on Fort Hood, Texas; and at the 20th CBRNE Command Operational Command Post here.

According to Brig. Gen. JB Burton, the commanding general of the Aberdeen Proving Ground-based 20th CBRNE Command, the exercise enables the U.S. Army's only CBRNE formation to tackle a variety of high-stakes scenarios.

Burton said the 20th CBRNE Command is training with regionally aligned brigades during the exercise. To better accomplish its global mission, the 20th CBRNE is aligning its three brigades with I Corps, III Corps and XVIII Airborne Corps. The brigades will cover Asia Pacific; Europe, Africa and Middle East; and Global Response Force missions in support of the U.S. Army's efforts to regionally align its combat forces.

"The 20th CBRNE Command confronts the world's most dangerous weapons in the world's most dangerous places," said Burton," and Exercise Atropian Phoenix enables our Soldiers to hone their life-saving and mission-enabling skills."
