NAVAL AIR FACILITY ATSUGI, Japan – Commander, Navy Installations Command conducted a biennial inspection of Naval Air Facility Atsugi’s unaccompanied housing, May 8-9.

UH is responsible for housing more than 1,900 NAF Atsugi Sailors.

“In preparation for the inspection we power sprayed all the barracks buildings and outside ladderwells,” said NAF Atsugi UH Leading Petty Officer Culinary Specialist 1st Class Adam Saperstein.

Preparation also included cleaning the grounds, cutting the grass around the barracks buildings and cleaning the storage rooms.
Beyond the physical work, a lot of admin work was required in updating all the resident files and verifying that the room list matches the people in the room.

The purpose of CNIC’s inspection is to ensure that UH is upholding the best possible standards and following the proper procedures.

“We are very proud of our sailors for the amount of work they have done to help prepare for this inspection,” said Saperstein. “They stayed late to finish taskings and really went above and beyond taking pride in prepping for this inspection.”

During the inspection, CNIC inspectors looked at the condition of the buildings and conducted a focus group with residents.

The purpose of the focus group was to gain feedback into what the residents thought could be improved and what was currently being done well by UH.

“They looked at our operation, everything from front desk to how we do keys, resident advisor program and customer service,” said Saperstein.

Saperstein said that any changes brought forth from the inspection will take time to analyze and put into implementation but that overall results were, “We passed all areas.”
