KEY WEST, Fla. - Commander, Navy Installations Command and Commander, Navy Region Southeast visited Naval Air Station Key West April 22 to see first-hand how Sailors and civilian employees sustain the fleet, enable the warfighter and support the family.
Vice Adm. William French and Rear Adm. Ricky L. Williamson visited four of NAS Key West’s annexes and met with the NAS Key West’s Sailor of the year, junior Sailor of the year, Blue Jacket of the year and civilian of the year for lunch at Boca Chica Field.
“It is an impressive base, but what makes it a really impressive base is the people that are here,” said French.
“I’m walking away with a great impression of what it’s like to live and work and have a family here in Key West,” he said. “It’s a paradise that I think the folks that are here truly enjoy. That’s the sense that I get from talking to folks who have been here a few months or who have been here years on multiple tours.
“The hospitality that I’ve had here has been wonderful. I certainly do appreciate all of what the folks that run the base do to make the quality of life and make it so pleasant for folks that are assigned here in Key West.”
French and Williamson will also visit Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, NAS Jacksonville, Fla. and Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Ga.
