QUANTICO, Va. -- A Marine Corps Recruiting Command (MCRC) Marine accepted the Stafford County Fire and Rescue Unit Citation Award on behalf of Station 2 on Thursday for assisting a Stafford County resident in delivering a baby at her residence on Dec. 29, 2013. Captain Frederick Monday, a Burtonsville, Md. native, is a volunteer for the Stafford Volunteer Fire Department, Station 2.
Monday has been a volunteer fire fighter since 2001 and has been an active member in the firehouse ever since.
“On average I volunteer between 150-250 hours of volunteer hours at the station,” said Monday. “I would get off work at 5 and go to the station until 7:30 am.”
Monday, the head for officer programs at MCRC, somehow still finds time to give back to the community while upholding his service to the Marine Corps and while having a family with two young ones at home.
As a volunteer, Monday receives no tangible benefits, but it’s the intangibles that matter to him.
“The camaraderie in the fire house is similar to the Marine Corps,” said Monday “It’s me hanging out with the guys. It’s my man-time.”
Watching these outstanding guys receive this award, he couldn’t be any more proud of his firefighters, said David Luckett, Fire Chief, Station 2.
“Fred is a go getter. Anything that needs to be done, he is always quick to volunteer,” said Luckett. “He takes a lot of initiative and has taken some of the young guys and keeps them in the right direction.”
He will continue volunteer at the firehouse and give back to the community, said Monday.
