    U.S. Army Central

SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. – This week’s U.S. Army Central Soldier Spotlight is Staff Sgt. Dana Parker, senior fire control sergeant.

Parker joined U.S. Army Central from the Fires Squadron, 2nd Cavalry Regiment in Vilseck, Germany, May 2013.

The Greenville, N.C., native is being recognized for his achievement as the noncommissioned officer of the month, within the Fires directorate, USARCENT.

Parker said his family is what’s most important to him and said there isn’t a better achievement than to have the love and support of his family.

    Q. What are your hobbies?
A: I enjoy going to the gun range and shooting.

    Q. What do you enjoy doing most during your free time?
A: I like seeing new and exciting places and things.

    Q. What are your short/long-term professional goals?
A: My short- term goal is to retire from the U.S. Army. My long-term goal is to pursue a degree in nursing.

    Q. When did you make the decision to become a Soldier and why?
A: I made the decision to become a Soldier during my junior year of high school. I wanted to pay my own way through school rather than rely on my mother to support me.

    Q. If you could take a vacation to a location of your choice, where would you go?
A: I would go to Australia.

    Q. What do you enjoy most about being a Soldier?
A: I enjoy being able to influence and change the lives of others.

    Q. If you could change one thing about the Army, what would you change and why?
A: I would change the time we come to work and the time we get off work. I would like to come in at 6 a.m. and be home by 2 p.m., with only a 30-minute break during the day. That schedule would still allow for maximum work hours, but also allow more individual free time after work.

    Q. If you could hold a different position in ARCENT for one day, what position would you choose?
A: None, because that would be too short of a time to make a difference.
