AL UDEID, Qatar - Members of the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing held a ribbon cutting ceremony at Al Udeid Air Base March 28, to formally open the newest 379th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron facility.
The facility is a $2.1 million project which broke ground Aug. 30, 2010 and was recently completed. The new building will provide Air Force members and contractors with new work space to train newly assigned security forces personnel, Qatar Emiri Air Forces and Qatar military police.
The 379th ESFS and host nation counterparts regularly train together to share tactics, techniques and procedures for base defense. These experiences strengthen their working relationship through mentorship and camaraderie and skill building exercises.
"The building is symbolic of the solidarity enjoyed between the U.S. and our Qatari hosts, and will play an important part in ensuring our integrated defense efforts are nested on Al Udeid Air Base," said Lt. Col. Thomas Segars, 379th ESFS commander who is serving a one year tour and a Hiawassee, Ga., native.
"The new training classroom has 24 dedicated computer workstations that provide defenders computer access when needed," said Master Sgt. Kenneth Broughman, 379th ESFS S4 superintendent, serving on a one-year tour and hails from Fithian, Ill.
"Additionally, the training classroom will support nearly 1,000 rotational Airmen and 100 QEAF and QEAF military police personnel per year," said Segars.
The building will also support other functions in one location to include increased storage capabilities which will allow consolidation of resources from multiple base locations to a central hub.
