KADENA AIR BASE, Japan - Kadena’s Airmen Committed to Excellence is scheduled to host a CLEP-a-thon from March 31 to April 25 that aims to assist service members and civilians in achieving their educational goals.

The CLEP-a-thon will offer students an opportunity to receive college credit through DSSTs (formerly known as DANTES Subject Standardized Tests) and the College Level Examination Program. CLEP is a group of standardized tests similar to DSSTs created by the College Board, creator of the SAT, which award college credit to students who meet minimum scoring requirements.

The CLEP-a-thon is part of ACE’s effort to provide development and volunteer opportunities to service members on Kadena.

“We’re an organization that primarily deals with the professional development of our airmen and our other sister services,” said Senior Airman Rebecca Wolnik, 18th Operations Support Squadron internal intelligence training program manager and ACE president. “Whatever their educational goals might be, the CLEP-a-thon is a very easy way to accomplish those goals.”

Students can choose from 12 classes covering six subjects: English, math, humanities, speech, social sciences and management. The classes will be an hour long and will be held twice per week.

“The purpose of the CLEP-a-thon is to get the base populous to focus on completing their Community College of the Air Force degree,” said Senior Airman Anthony Garcia, 18th Comptroller Squadron defense travel system liaison. “We also extend that courtesy to all services to complete their personal degrees. It’s free for active-duty service members under tuition assistance, and it’ll cost $80 per exam for civilians.”

Although apprentice-level members are unable to take traditional college classes or graduate with their CCAF degree until they achieve journeyman-level status, they are eligible to receive credit toward their degree through CLEPs and DSSTs and are encouraged to participate in the CLEP-a-thon.

For more information or to sign up, contact Senior Airman Rebecca Wolnik no later than March 21 at rebecca.wolnik@us.af.mil.
