    8th Theater Sustainment Command

FORT SHAFTER, Hawaii - The 8th Theater Sustainment Command is hosting the 593rd Sustainment Command’s (Expeditionary) Early Entry Command Post, Feb. 19 - March 6, which deployed from the unit’s home station of Joint Base Lewis-McChord to Fort Shafter to participate in one of the Pacific theater’s major combined annual exercises.

Under the umbrella of Key Resolve, a command post exercise between United States Forces Korea and their Pacific partners, the TSC is facilitating the 593rd’s EECP in order to build professional logistics partnerships, increase understanding of the Pacific Command’s logistics challenges, and proactively address strategic threats in the region.

“Our first training objective was to deploy the EECP and establish operations, demonstrating our expeditionary capabilities,” said Col. Mark Paget, the deputy commander of the 593rd ESC. “We provide mission command and a common operating picture for assigned or attached forces, and synchronize operational logistics. We’re that bridge between tactical and strategic logistics.”

The 8th TSC is the senior Army logistics command in the Pacific, responsible for logistics and supply for land operations throughout the theater, and the collaboration fostered by the CPX is critical because of the massive scale and activity in the Pacific theater.

The 593rd’s equipment arrived in January aboard the 8th TSC’s logistic support vessel 2, owned and operated by the 45th Sustainment Command, and was transported to the field beside the 8th TSC headquarters building on Fort Shafter.

The ESC’s advance party of 20 soldiers set up their EECP within 72 hours, just in time for an additional 20 personnel to arrive and man the station.

“We extremely value the partnership with the 8th TSC,” said Paget. “Our staff officers are learning from their 8th TSC staff counterparts with some over-the-shoulder training during Key Resolve. Every day they attend the working groups and planning cells with the 8th TSC and [United States Army Pacific].”

He said there is a great synergy among the units, and the partnership enhances readiness by building relationships and demonstrating the ESC and TSC relevance.
