HULMAN FIELD AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Members of the 181st Intelligence Wing 181st Intelligence Group Indiana Air National Guard recently completed their first ever integration training during Exercise Red Flag hosted at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev.
This marks the first time since the 2005 Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission that the 181st IW has participated in the Red Flag exercise.
“Each mission is a race against the clock to get verified intelligence to the decision maker in the time and fidelity demanded,” stated Col. Kip Clark, 181st IG commander.
The 181st IG participated in the Global Integrated Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance missions of the Red Flag exercise in support of Air-to-Air, Air-to-Ground and Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses missions.
“I am extremely proud of my airmen’s performance,” stated Clark. “This training hones our skills to respond to all federal tasks.”
Other opportunities are on the horizon for the 181st IG analysts to integrate into challenging mission sets in support of the Anti-Access Area-Denial missions while maintaining a focus on the current Operation Enduring Freedom Counter-Insurgency mission.
“While this is the first time back in major Air Force level exercises for many, it won’t be the last opportunity for Racers from the 181 IG to showcase and hone their analytical skills against a capable adversary,” said Clark.
Red Flag’s purpose is to maximize the combat readiness, capability and survivability of participating units by providing realistic training in a combined air, ground, space and electronic threat environment.
