FORT KNOX, Ky.- Nineteen soldiers graduated a very intense Equal Opportunity Liaison course Feb. 8 at the 11th Aviation Command here.

According to the course instructors, this year’s course was intense due to the curriculum being shortened to one week instead of two.

In addition to the massive workload, the students faced multiple delays due to the freezing winter weather.

“They were able to adapt even with the weather,” said Master Sgt. Michael J. Book, EOL instructor.

Some of the curriculum included effective and active listening, perceptions of stereotypes, discrimination and power, religious accommodations and the equal opportunity complaint process.

The students enjoyed the course and its instructors.

“The best part was the knowledge the instructors brought along with their experience; it helps to maintain the information,” said Sgt. 1st Class Brian Holmes, of Fort Knox’s 4th Battalion, 399th Regiment (ROTC).

“The diversity of the class was the best. Hearing everyone remarks about different issues and the instructor’s experience,” said Sgt. 1st Class Karen Goodwin, 12th Battalion, 100th Regiment (Civil-Affairs).

Brig. Gen. Michael Dillard, commanding general of the 310th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, attended the graduation and thanked the new EOLs for being in such an involved position. He also reiterated their new responsibilities as EOLs and the importance of their job.

“It is you who must not tire when everyone else gives up on the system,” Dillard said, “because they do not understand the many steps to effectively handle concerns or issues.”

At the end of the ceremony, Sgt. Elizabeth Mashaw, Company B 5th Battalion (General Support), -159th Aviation Regiment, Fort Eustis, Va. received a coin from Command Sgt. Maj. Luther Thomas, command sergeant major of the Army Reserve, for being the course’s honor graduate.
