    182nd Airlift Wing

PEORIA, Ill. - Peoria Air National Guardsmen with the 182nd Force Support Squadron services flight were evaluated by judges for competition in the annual Senior Master Sgt. Kenneth Disney Award at the 182nd Airlift Wing, Peoria, Ill., Feb. 1 and 2, 2014.

The services flight is made up of volunteer, part-time airmen from various Illinois communities. Their mission is to provide food amenities and service for the 1,200 guardsmen that support the mission of the Greater Peoria Air National Guard Base.

This is the first time in more than 20 years that the services flight has competed against other services units for recognition in top performance, said Senior Master Sgt. James W. Stogdill, the services superintendent.

The Air National Guard headquarters established the award in 2000 to promote excellence in guest services and meal quality. The headquarters unit gives the award every year to the best Air National Guard services flight. This year the award panel received submissions from nine services units and then evaluated the top three.

The competing airmen achieve the distinction through inspiring high morale, motivation, mission support and a professional image through pride and spirited competition.

The team of evaluators will present a traveling trophy, a plaque for display at the unit and bragging rights in May to the winning unit at the National Restaurant Association, Hotel-Motel Show in Chicago.

One member from each of the final three units will also be selected by the evaluation team to attend the Culinary Institute of America in Napa Valley, Calif., for a week of hands-on experience.
