QUANTICO, Va. –The Marine Corps Recruiting Command (MCRC) is pleased to announce its partnership with the 2014 MAES Leadership Academy (MLA) at the University of Texas at El Paso, Feb. 5-8, 2014.

The MAES mission is to promote, cultivate and honor excellence in education and leadership among Latino engineers and scientists. This year’s MLA will provide an opportunity for attendees to network with established leaders, such as Marines, while continuing the advancement and development of their leadership skills.

By providing a nurturing environment and networking opportunities, MAES members will develop and hone their leadership, communication, management and technical skills. The theme for this year’s event is “Celebrating Leadership and Beyond.” The MLA will feature a variety of workshops, presentations and a team project competition. During every event, Marines will engage with participants and showcase the Marine Corps’ leadership values and career opportunities.

“Events, such as the Marine Corps’ workshop on ethics, give MLA attendees an opportunity to see that the values important to Marines are the same ones that they grew up with -- doing what’s right, moral courage, and decisiveness,” says Master Sergeant Mark McArthur, diversity chief, MCRC. “Many individuals at MAES have never looked at the Marine Corps as a place for professional development.”

Marines will be integrated into several MAES events. They will speak with students one-on-one at the Speed Networking Breakfast, provide discussions on leadership skills, team up with students during the College Decathlon and engage MAES influencers during a center of influence event.
