WASHINGTON - Approximately 120 District of Columbia Army and Air National Guard have been called up to support snow emergency missions beginning at 4 a.m., Jan. 21, preparing for a possible snow emergency in the District of Columbia.
National Guardsmen will be on 24/7 standby, preparing vehicles and equipment for a prompt response to requests from local civil authorities.
“These men and women are here today to ensure that when the citizens of the District of Columbia call upon us, we are ready to act immediately.” said Maj. Gen. Errol R. Schwartz, commanding general, D.C. National Guard. “We are always ready, always there.”
Most of the troops will spend the night in a D.C. National Guard Armory.

During hurricane Sandy and the derecho storms, the District of Columbia National Guard provided traffic control support.
“We are ready for the worst and hoping for the best.” said Col. Aaron Dean, operations officer for the District of Columbia National Guard. “These guys are trained, equipped and ready.”
