ANSF kill 16 enemy fighters, find weapons cache in Logar
LOGAR PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Afghan National Security Forces led two patrols Jan. 15-16, killing 16 insurgents and injuring four during operations in Zhargun Shar village, Mohamed Agha district, Logar province.
Afghan local and national police, National Directorate of Security officials and Afghan National Army soldiers searched the village for weapons caches as Afghan officials look to increase security by building police checkpoints in the district.
More than 20 enemy fighters attacked the patrols after Afghan forces investigated reports of Taliban fighters hiding weapons and explosives inside the Zhargun Shar mosque.
ANSFs repelled the attacks killing or wounding the majority of the fighters, Afghan security officials reported.
ALP and NDS officials searched the mosque and discovered a weapons cache consisting of two improvised explosive devices, mortar equipment and ANSF uniforms.
ANSF confiscated the weapons and the injured are in custody of Afghan officials.
